I STARTED SPEED SKATING IN 2007...
...and I've not looked back! All throughout my teens I was a very proud member of Mohawks Ice Racing Club in Solihull.
My first international competition was a European Star Class in Mannheim Germany in 2009. I was so nervous and determined not to come last. I didn't win, but I didn't come last. And, most importantly, I knocked two seconds off my personal best. Ever since then I have competed all around the globe in four different continents in World/European Championships and numerous World Cups.
Only three years later, in 2012 at the age of 17, I moved to Nottingham and started training with the GB Short Track Squad. It was amazing to finally be able to do what I loved, all day every day. It is a dream come true (even when the lactic acid kicks in!)
In 2014, 18 years old, I won the Junior British Championships in Nottingham. And then in 2017 I won the Senior British Championships: my name was up there with the British greats such as Jon Eley, Nicky Gooch, and Wilf O’Reilly.
The XXIII Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang, South Korea, was my first Olympic games and it certainly did not disappoint. From the Olympic village to the Gangneung Arena (Short track venue) it was a fantastic experience and I will cherish these memories for the rest of my life.
I competed at the Olympic Winter Games in the 1500m and the 1000m. I finished 33rd in the 1500m and I finished 14th in the 1000m after reaching the Quarter finals. I was happy with my performance in the favoured distance in the 1000m and reaching my target of top 16.
